Filing your return

You may file your tax return electronically, either on your own with approved tax-preparation software or through a tax-preparation firm. Alternately, you may file a paper form. If your adjusted gross income is $52,000 or less (in 2006), you may qualify for free tax-preparation software and free filing through a collaboration of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and a number of private companies.

To find out more, you must go to the IRS website at www.irs.gov, click on “Check Out Free File” on the home page, and follow the instructions.
